Back to Basics
Well Spent the weekend working through the book "learn basic on the spectrum" a primer for ZX spectrum basic. Why learn basic for a 38 year old computer you might wonder. Well I have always had it in my head to write a game for the zx spectrum. Ever since the 80s I wanted to do it, but it was just one of those things I never got round to. But now I sort of got it into my head that this might be a good project to test the water with. It wont be the final version of the game, the aim is still pen n paper game and a PC or web based video game. But it would be nice to put it out on the zx spectrum as well.
Learning basic all over again is going well, getting lots of hints and tips from the retro people on twitter but I know it probably wont be enough, I will have to push into the arcane world of z80 assembly. which again the retro community on twitter is offering great hints and tips.
You'll see the image with this post is me playing about with the idea for the back of a playing card constructed in spectrum basic. just a test but it is actually a great feeling to be able to just have even a tiny bit of progress on the system from my chilhood.
Anyway in between learning decades old computer languages, this week I hope to get the character generation fleshed out and coded in some capicity. that out the way I can them progress and start on the creatures and other NPCs details and stats.
